Advent Season Begins...

FIRST CANDLE - The Prophecy Candle or Candle of Hope
The Old Testament spoke of the coming of Christ, of how a Savior would be born, a king in the line of King David. We can have hope because God is faithful and will keep the promises made to us. Our hope comes from God. It is rooted in the covenant relationship that exists between God and humanity.

“Isaiah says, ‘The Root of Jesse will spring up, one who will arise to rule over the nations; the Gentiles will hope in him.’ May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” – Romans 15:12-13

Psalm 100

“Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness;
Come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the Lord is God.

It is he who made us, and we are his;
We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving, his courts with praise;
Give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
His faithfulness continues throughout all generations.”

Kindness

From Days of Old -

  This is a painting by Morgan Weistling that hangs in the Autry Museum. It's not often that you personally know someone in a painting like this. My long-time friend, Kathy Gulbranson, is the "young grandma" at the table, and her granddaughter, Rilynn, is one of the children. It's also interesting to note that Gene Autry and his wife were best friends of my former in-laws, the Cooper's. :)

Thanksgiving to our God -

Enter his gates with thanksgiving;
               Go into his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him and praise his name.

Dr. King...

"The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it. Through violence you may murder the liar, but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth. Through violence you murder the hater, but you do not murder hate. In fact, violence merely increases hate. Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate. Only love can do that."
